Squaw Valley’s 19th Annual Lake Cushing Crossing scheduled for May 9th at 2pm.
Next weekend, in conjunction with the final days of Squaw Valley skiing for the season, will be the year end fun of the 19th Annual Lake Cushing Crossing. This is a highly entertaining event in which competitors attempt to cross the recently thawed pond (lovingly know as Lake Cushing) located at the bottom of the mountain run. Competitors may choose their mode of transport which includes skis, snowboards, monoskis, and variety of other contraptions. The judges look for… actual success of crossing the pond along with style, costume, and such as their rank the competitors in the categories of ski, snowboard and other. It is a hilarious community event which always draws a large crowd to soak in the sun and watch the fun. In past years Shane McConkey was usually a participant and true to his exploring self, always coming up with a new way to cross the pond, and most times with great success. His participation and lively addition to the event will be missed this year, though we all know he will be there in spirit.
